I’ve been feeling very crafty lately. I think it’s because I’ve got a bit of time on my hands, and I like creating things. Back in college, I went through a macrame hemp necklace phase. They were all the rage 20 years ago. I got hemp cord, lots of beads, and made tons of necklaces and bracelets.

Today, I started making bracelets again. This time, with lava beads that I can use with my essential oils.

Yes, I’ve hopped onto the essential oil bandwagon. I’m sure to write another blog post about that sometime soon. Today, I want to dive back into macrame.

For those that don’t know what macrame is, it’s the art of using knots to create objects or jewelry. Each type of knot creates a different look. The basic knots are the half knot and the square knot. It’s been a while since I did this, so I had to get out my old books and relearn the knots.

It didn’t take long before I finished my first lava bead hemp bracelet, complete with a button closure. It turned out quite nice, so I might make more to sell on etsy.

It’s funny how crafts from so long ago in my life have slowly become more prominent. Perhaps the universe is trying to tell me something about what I should have focused my energies on. I truly love crafting and find it a relaxing activity.

It’s very portable too. I sat outside with my crafting materials the other day, soaking up some much needed fresh air. The past few days have been hot in New England, but windy. It feels good to finally get outside and look at all the plants growing. I have a few flower gardens that are about to burst with color soon. The peonies are literally on the cusp of opening, and I’m so excited.

The garden will soon be my main priority. I have seedlings growing inside right now that will need to be transplanted. Before that happens, I need to prepare the garden, and find some type of fence to keep out the woodchuck that I’ve recently discovered terrorizing my yard. More on this in a few weeks.

In the meantime, I’ll be making more bracelets. And cooking up delicious recipes.
