It’s only been summer for four days, technically, but it feels like summer has been here for a few weeks now. School is out on Wednesday, and Lucy has much less “work” to do than usual. So we’ve had some extra time to hang by the pool.
There’s something magical about being near a body of water that instantly relaxes you. You can sit for hours and read a book, taking in the sunshine until you’re roasting and need to swim. My parents backyard is a bird watcher’s dream. They have jam set up to feed the orioles, and oranges sit on the fence for the catbirds. Hummingbird and suet feeders are arranged in several locations to spot woodpeckers, bluejays, and of course, hummingbirds. The occasional chipmunk will wander into the yard, though one of them is in the doghouse for messing with some plants.
Once you’re out of the pool after that final dip, you’re cooled off for the rest of the night.
I’ve probably written about summer before. It comes around every year. Somehow, it always sneaks up on us, taking us by surprise, though we know it’s coming. Weeks of cool, chilly days seem to last all spring, then all of a sudden, Bang! it’s hot. And summer is here.
I’ve been given the gift of time this summer. Time to reflect on my life, on what it is I want to do with it. I’ve been writing book two of my series, and still waiting on what’s happening with book one. I’ll be posting some new things about essential oils in the next few weeks that will be informative and helpful. And if you want to buy some, I’ll have a link for that too.
I’m also able to enjoy summer with my girls. I’ve signed up for the summer reading program at the library along with Lucy.
I want to make the most of this summer, because I’m not sure if I’ll have another summer off like this. The past few months have been stressful, and we all need some much needed time to chill.
Hope y’all have a great summer, and make sure to check back in whenever I have new posts. And let’s hope by fall the world has settled back into the normal we’re used to.
