Over the weekend, I happened to have nothing going on Saturday night (like most people these days, but really, when do I have anything going on anytime?), so I ended up watching the One World Together musical special that Lady Gaga organized. I haven’t been listening to too much music since I’ve been home, even though I love music. I used to listen to music at work, but seeing as I don’t have work anymore, the music slowly got phased out.

The show featured some of my favorite artists, like Eddie Vedder and Chris Martin, singing in their homes, playing pianos or organs or guitars. Raw talent without any extra pizazz. People collaborating millions of miles away from each other, but playing together. It was beautiful. The song Taylor Swift sang was gorgeous.

And so music has started to trickle back into my routine. The past two weeks I’ve added “Kitchen Dance Party” to my itenerary of daily things I do. I wash dishes or make baked goods, shaking my ass to whatever dance groove is coming from my little bluetooth speaker. It’s fabulous. You have to try it sometime.

I even had the amazing idea of creating a bakery called Kiana’s Rock n Roll Bakery, where I blast dance and rock music while making tasty treats, but then Kelsey said there’s already the Hard Rock Cafe. But they’re not even a cafe. They serve burgers, not baked goods. They should really be named Hard Rock Diner or Hard Rock Kitchen. Makes no sense at all.

But I digress. In short, I’ve gotten back into music. And I want to dance! It’s one activity that you can do by yourself, but it’s always more fun to dance with friends. Dancing in clubs, sticky floors, sweaty people everywhere. It’s not too glamorous but it’s lots of fun. And an excellent workout.

If I had more confidence I’d create some kitchen dance party videos for you, but believe me, you don’t want to see that. Besides the fact that I’ve been living in pajamas for a month, with no makeup, and hair that desperately needs to be cut, my dance moves are on par with Elaine from Seinfeld. I mean, not that bad, but you get the picture. I always think I look better than I do.

I read a post recently that said we’re all in the same storm, but in different boats. Which is entirely true. The thing we all have is music to help unite us, to give us that extra boost no matter what we’re going through. We can listen to our favorite songs, or take some time to find a new sound. Whether you want to dance, or rock n roll, or enjoy some classical beats. The beat goes on along with us, as long as we remember to tune in.
