Everyone has something they are passionate about. It could be something as simple as enjoying a cup of hot coffee every morning to as elaborate as collecting miniature mice from around the world. Within each of us is passion, and sometimes we don’t know that it exists until others around us open us, awake us, to the passion that lies inside.

When I was in the eighth grade, my teacher, Mrs. Eichenbaum, taught us poetry. I remember her words about poetry…Poetry is passion, she said. We watched the film “Dead Poets’ Society” and then we wrote our own poetry. I had always been passionate about writing and poetry, but when we saw this film, and started reading poems, and writing them, I tapped into something that I hope will always be there. My own passion for poetry. Finding just the right words for the moment I want to capture on paper. Words are my paintbrush, and often I’m the only one who reads them. Sometimes I share my creations with others, but most I keep hidden away.

But I have many other passions besides poetry. Too many to name here, and not all that I would care to share with the entire world. Sometimes our secret passions are the ones that mean the most to us, the ones that make us feel alive. And these passions make us who we are, even if no one else knows about them. I have a passion for beauty, for finding it, and capturing it, and sharing it with others. The beauty of simple things, moments that are overlooked in the bustle of daily life. And I have a passion for knitting. And music, too.

My sister has a passion for dancing, and a friend of mine is passionate about traveling. Having a desire to be or do something defines you. It makes you. And when you find your passion, and express it, and really do it or be it, your passion will overcome you. And others will see it, and somehow, that passion spreads to them. And they start thinking about what they’re passionate about. And soon everyone eventually finds what it is they want out of life. It’s not money, or fame and riches. Most often, it’s a simple thing that may or not be within our reach. But when you find it, and grab hold of it, you know that it was meant for you all along. This is your thing. And you alone can bring life to whatever it is you’re doing.

What is your passion? Have you found it yet? Or are you still searching? Tell me what your passion or desire in life is. I want to know what makes you breath, what gives you inspiration to exist. What makes you feel more alive than anything else. Sometimes, sharing your passion with others is as rewarding as finding it, or keeping it to yourself.
