I was just reading an article on Yahoo about the worst mother’s day gifts, and the first one on the list was kitchen appliances, with the photo of a very nice Kitchenaid artisan stand mixer. This kind of makes me angry that someone would feel slighted if they happened to get a kitchenaid mixer as a gift. They’re not cheap! I know, cause I’ve been wanting one for a long time. This year my husband bought me one and I can’t be happier. I think it’s the best Mother’s Day gift I’ve gotten (besides the iPod I got a couple years back). In both cases, I had requested the items beforehand, so he knew I wanted them. That’s usually how we do things when it comes to getting each other gifts for these type of holidays.
But to lump the Kitchenaid mixer in with other appliances, like a toaster, just seems wrong. I can see that not all women would want one, if they don’t cook or aren’t addicted to the Food Network (where practically all the cooks use one). But it’s totally not the worst gift to give someone. I can think of a lot worst gifts, like Tools (unless they are manly and like to do that sort of thing). Or a lawnmower. Heck, I’d even classify a nice new washer and dryer as a great gift, as long as they were the new colored whirlpool ones that I’m dying to trade my old ones for someday. Or a stainless steel side-by-side Fridge. (Can you tell I’m into kitchen stuff?)
Anyway, I just needed to get that out there. Some mothers do like to get appliances. It all depends on the person and their likes and dislikes. My advice for getting mother’s day gifts is to ask them first what they want, or let them buy whatever they want. Or give them money. Then they can do whatever they want with it.
