It snowed today. I should almost expect it to snow every day but I don’t. And when it happens, it’s like magic. You go to bed, it’s not snowing. You wake up, instant snow on the ground, and lots of it coming down from the sky that you can’t quite make out cause all you can see is white in every direction. But you can hear it. Before you even get out of bed, if you listen quietly, you can hear the roar of the snowstorm outside. And you know, before you even look outside, that the ground is covered in fluffy white stuff. And your cars look like big white hills. And you hope that you don’t have to leave the house.Today was one of those days, except that I did have to leave the house once to pick up my daughter, who was at grandma’s house. But for the most part, it was a nice day stuck inside.
Whenever we have days like this, I find that I get more done than I would have if the weather was better. Because we can’t go anywhere, I don’t have to bother getting dressed. So I putter around the house, looking for things to do. Today I was able to organize all my knitting magazines, enter all my knitting needles into an app in my phone that lets me keep track of the ones I have, and I was able to clean up the first floor so the house is nice and tidy.
And I was able to write this blog about it all.
I was originally going to write about my grandma, the Avon lady, but that must wait for another day, as I can’t figure out what I want to write about that. There’s really not too much to tell there.
Anyway, I find it all so amusing the way we can be trapped inside our houses, but yet stay more connected with people. Using the Internet, or our phones, we can instantly catch up with all the people we would like to get in touch with. We can text them, phone them, update our Facebook status, send them emails. The list goes on to how we can stay in touch. It’s really quite amazing the way technology has added this community aspect to our lives.
It used to be that snow days like this meant we’d have to resort to board games with the other people in our house, or reading books. Or for the brave, going outside to play in the snow. The last time I ventured out in a snow storm to play was in the fourth grade I believe. It’s been awhile.
It’s been a pretty lazy day, but actually productive at the same time. It’s strange how that happens. And I have found time to once again write on my blog, on Sunday. I may not be able to wake up early three days a week to do pilates, but if I can at least make my one day a week date with my blog, then I’m happy. It keeps me writing, and that’s all I care about. I’ll work on the exercise later.
