I treasure laughter very much in my life. Laughter connects us with others, provides us with something that spans age, race, sex, religion. Laughter is something everyone has access to. And there are so many things that laughter can do.When something is funny, we laugh. I remember so many good times with friends and family when the room was full of laughter. And we laughed so hard it made me cry, literally. I love a good laughing fit. Sometimes I start laughing for no reason than just to laugh. Usually at myself, but often for things I’m watching on TV, or something I’ve heard on the radio.

Each of us finds different things funny. And that’s okay. This is what makes us different. When we find other people who share in our sense of humor, it’s a way for us to connect on a different level. There’s a shared understanding that what we enjoy, our friend will also enjoy. We learn to know what they like and dislike, and how they’ll react in certain situations, based on what they may find funny.

I tend to have a very odd sense of humor. I was watching old classic comedy skits on youtube this evening, thinking back on all the great times I’ve had in my life. I used to watch Gallagher on television with my dad when I was in high school. You know, the guy with the frizzy hair and the sledgomatic. So funny.

My current new favorite comedian is Demetri Martin. He’s on Comedy Central and he is hilarious. He’s got a new show called Important Things that is on Thursday nights. I could watch him for hours.

Both of these comedians talk about the most general things, and how by looking at them differently, they become funny. And they’re spot on for the most part.

Lately I’ve been trying to look at things in different ways, to expand my insights if you will. Sometimes I think we get into a rut in our thinking, and are often so set in our ways that we can’t see the other side. This is one of the main reasons that I have stayed away from politics. I don’t think politicians care to see things from both sides and if they did, then there wouldn’t be such a divide in our government. People would let other people make their own choices in life, without being told what they can or can’t do, as long as it didn’t hurt anyone and wasn’t a crime. It’s such a simple concept.

I’m not sure where I was going with this. I’m sure I had a point to all this when I started, but now I’m tired and I just needed to write something. Oh, I remember now. Remember to laugh, every day. Look at the world around you, and find the things in it that are just funny. Yesterday I went to the store and found something called Scrapple. And I laughed. Right there, out loud, in the freezer section. And I was by myself.

Just imagining what I must have looked like doing that is making me chuckle even now. I’m such a silly person. But it’s good to be silly sometimes. It makes things light-hearted and fun. And it’s important to open your eyes to the fun that is waiting for you, just outside your door. You never know what it will be, or where it will show up. And that is what makes it even more fun.

So go out and find the fun and laughter in your life. And enjoy every minute of it.
