I know it looks like I’ve been hooked on breakfast foods lately. But if it were up to me, we’d have breakfast for every meal. Breakfast foods are so versatile and easy to make, and you can have every flavor you want at breakfast.

Today, it’s all about French Toast. Usually, I use someone else’s recipe to make this, but today I decided I wanted to spice things up a bit. This recipe adds more Christmas flavor and serves up to 6 slices of toast, if not a bit more. I added a bit more cinnamon than what’s used here, so feel free to add more as well. But as always, if you want a little less spice, adjust as necessary.

I hope you enjoy making these as much as I did, and that your family will have warm and full bellies all winter long. Stay tuned for my next tasty creation (hint: a new take on everyone’s favorite treat).

Ingredients

  • 6-8 slices of bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, beat the eggs, then add in the milk and the rest of the ingredients. Whisk together till combined.
  2. Over medium heat, add butter or cooking spray to a frying pan.
  3. Dip one slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure not to soak it too much. I tend to put it in and flip it once.
  4. Put the bread into the frying pan and cook on one side for about a minute, then flip to cook on the other side.
  5. When all sides are lightly browned, transfer to a plate.
  6. Repeat with the rest of the bread, dipping and cooking.
  7. I like to add butter and syrup to my French Toast. Add whatever toppings you like. Serve immediately, as these are best served warm off the stove. If you want to make a bunch at once and keep warm, put them on a baking sheet in the oven at 200 degrees.
